Waitin for parts

Well I am pretty much at a stand still. I need to take the crankcase covers off but almost all of the screws holding them on are stripped. I just got a set of easy outs and they worked for some of them but there are still some stubborn ones left. Next I am getting a torch and I am going to try using a little heat along with some left handed drill bits. Hopefully that will work.

Also I have been looking for a set of carbs which are a lot harder to find then what I thought. I have a set on order from a guy from the SOHC4 forum. Hopefully he will get those in the mail to me this week. along with the master cylinder and seat. That should pretty much cover the big parts that I need. I have started cleaning some of the parts that I have gotten off and I am really impressed with how much they shine. Just a little bit of elbow grease and the help from some wire brush wheels.

Well other than that not much progress so will post again when I have made some kind of break through.

Week 2 - Settin Up Shop

Well I started working on breaking down the engine and got stuck on getting the cam out. It is being held down by the timing chain so I have to figure out how to get that off. In the process of getting to this point I have stripped 2 bolts and 3 screws so far. Isnt that great well guess I will have to learn how to handle stripped bolts. In Dan's motorcycle course he offers a lot of tips on how to handle stuck bolts so I will probably try out some of his ideas.

The big thing I did this weekend is set up shop. I had an old desk/drawer system in the garage with a small book shelf on it. It was covered with trash and junk so instead of going out and buying some cheap shelfs and not having anywhere to put them. I decided to go buy some more tools and build my own out of the junk drawer table thing. It turned out really good the measurements werent perfect but they work for what I need them to. and now I have a lot more room to work. I am looking forward to my next weekend off to really get that engine out.

Important stupidity note if you plan to move the bike either have both wheels on or get a second pair of hands. I tried to drag it across the garage and ended up laying it down and dragging across the garage floor on the bottom of the frame. I dont think I hurt anything at least I hope not.
